Questions on hot-button topics with Your Answers!

Q) During the week, there's a lot to be busy with- besides work, you may be volunteering or in school. MS is a great time to relax and have some time for yourself, but it can get lonely. The long winter MS may be especially lonesome. What are some ideas for activities to do on the long winter Motzei Shabbosos?

Q)

·       Take lessons in something you're interested in.

Get a group of friends together and arrange workshops. Pay someone to do a series on a topic you're interested in or to teach you something, etc. -C.L.

·       I'm not a 'going out' type of gal - we make pizza (and sometimes chips - that's fries, for those in the US) in the Domo - yum! And you can make some iced coffee to go along with it;) - G.C.

·       In my family, we do "Motzei Madness," a term my uncle coined. We have a group chat where we send plans and ideas for Motzei Shabbos, and whoever is available and wants to join comes. This can work with friends, too!

Note: while some of these suggestions are universal, I live in the tristate area, so some of these suggestions are in the tristate.

- Bowling and mini golf. I especially like glow-in-the-dark mini golf!

- Top golf

- Laser tag and arcades

- Walk around Times Square

- Restaurants in various places. Teaneck, Monsey and Brooklyn have good places to eat. NYC is pricier but worth it if you want to walk around after.

- Go to family/ friends’ houses to eat and chill. Sit by the fireplace if they have one. Ordering pizza, sitting by a fireplace, and schmoozing with family or friends you haven't seen in a while is loads of fun!

- Around the holiday season, you can go into NYC and see lights in Bryant Park, plus Bryant Park has ice skating!

- There are some cool malls in NYC to explore, like the one in the American Express tower and others.

- Macy's Herald Square NYC. It's especially cool during the holiday season.

- Rockefeller Center

-American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, NJ.

- I think it's fun to buy ice cream and walk along the boardwalk at night with others, even if all the stores are closed and it's dark. Just make sure the area you are choosing is safe.

- I live in a town with not many Kosher restaurants and stores. So, I like to do excursions to areas that have larger populations of Jews with lots of kosher stores and restaurants. I like to walk along their streets plus drive around and see if there are any parties/ Melava Malkas’ going on, even if I can't attend. I find it very fun, and it gives me a boost of Jewish pride.

Pro tip: this can also be an opportunity to explore new places and discover what to do there.

- Color Me Mine or any other art place like painting or pottery.

- If you want, you can host your own art class with friends and/or family.

- Chabad Lubavitcher Rebbe Ohel and/or 770. Fun stuff is often going on at 770 in Crown Heights, NY. -T.J.

·       I try to either get together with friends, usually pick up soup, and eat by the Lakewood Lake :) or try to prepare for school so my Sunday is more clear (#teacherlife)

·       I like to spend time organizing my pictures and making photo books- Anonymous

·       I like doing paint pourings-so fun and relaxing! You can find all supplies on Amazon (or Michaels if you’d like better-quality paint and canvas). There are so many amazing techniques, and every painting comes out different than the one before, so it never gets boring.

I also enjoy playing guitar and singing. Occasionally, I’ll make a kumzitz for my family.

Sometimes, I’ll listen to a shiur on TorahAnytime or an interesting Podcast on Spotify.

(My personal favorites are Living L’Chaim and Meaningful People podcast;))

I recently signed up for Linkup Nook, and the classes are held on Motzei Shabbos. It’s a wonderful way to start the week! -S.K.
